Abstract

OSA is closely related to cardiovascular disease, but traditional parameters based on polysomnography (such as AHI, T90) lack dynamic biochemical characterization of potential pathophysiological processes. Electrochemical sensors have shown significant value in medical testing due to their high sensitivity, miniaturization, and real-time detection capabilities, especially for monitoring OSA related biomarkers such as inflammatory factors (IL-6, CRP), oxidative stress products (H ₂ O ₂, 8-OHdG), and myocardial injury indicators (cTnI, NT proBNP). These biomarkers can be rapidly and label free quantified in micro upgraded samples through functionalized electrodes, providing molecular basis for evaluating hypoxia induced systemic damage. Based on the Sleep Heart Health Study (SHHS) cohort data, this study included OSA patients with no cardiovascular history at baseline, with cardiovascular death as the endpoint event. The Fine Gray competitive risk model was used to screen independent predictive factors, and a column chart prediction model was constructed. The results showed that age, T90, AHI, and smoking pack year were independent predictive factors for cardiovascular death; The model has been internally validated to have good discrimination (C-index = 0.78) and calibration performance. Although electrochemical data was not directly used, the pathological mechanisms revealed by the results, such as inflammation and oxidative stress caused by chronic intermittent hypoxia, are…

How strong is the evidence?

Evidence Hub reads this as a cohort study, done in people. Its evidence level is 3 of 5 (Moderate · trial / cohort / secondary analysis). Trials without a large randomized design, cohorts and secondary analyses give moderate evidence.

How the five levels of evidence work. The level is assigned automatically from the abstract and can be wrong, so check the paper.
