Biocompatible Microneedle Transdermal Sensor for Glucose Monitoring
Abstract
Regarding next-generation non-invasive point-of-care devices, we have developed a continuous glucose monitoring sensor in peripheral biofluids, especially interstitial fluid (ISF), which closely reflects blood levels. Microneedle (MN) technology is applied to a transdermal sensor made of polylactic acid (PLA), and gold electroless plating is used for the electrode of an electrochemical sensor. The enzyme; glucose oxidase (GOD), was immobilized with a biocompatible zwitterionic redox polymer hydrogel. The MN glucose sensor can monitor glucose levels in ISF both in vitro and in vivo.
